The Window Rock Wellness Center opened its doors on November 06, 2006 and is operated by the Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project. The facility is located next to the Window Rock Sports Center on the Navajo Nation Fair Grounds and main focus is aimed at combating diabetes through Physical Activites that includes a total-body workout.
“We emphasize that our facility is a wellness center, and not a fitness center nor a gym, because we want our clients to exercise, but at the same time we want them to learn about nutrition and healthy eating to prevent diabetes,” said Betti Delrow, Acting Program Manager of Navajo Nation Special Diabetes Project. “We are concerned about the whole being so that when people leave our facility, they will be strong to combat diabetes and be able to share diabetes information with their families, friends and relatives.”
The facility is opened to the public at free of charge. Presently, there are over 3,000 members that use the wellness center throughout the year with an average of 250 people coming and going on a daily basis.
Presently, the special exercise and workout classes include indoor cycling, aerobics, kick-boxing, Zumba dancing, cross training, core training, abdominal classes, full body, chair-exercises, and yoga. Exercise equipment ranges from treadmills, cross trainers, steppers, bikes, upper-body cycles, upper body/back/leg out machines, upper-body weight machines, and back-weight machines. Free weights include squat rack, smith machine, and cable station. 12 Brand new Life Fitness treadmills were installed to begin the New Year 2013.
